Equipment

  • 1 deep fryer (or heavy bottomed pot)

Ingredients

  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup Powdered (confectioner's) sugar
  • 1/2 cup cherry jam *jam of your choice (homemade or store bought)
  • Neutral oil for deep frying
  • 1 egg (yolk only) *for sealing the wraps

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar
  • working with one wrap at a time, place 1/2 tsp cream cheese and 1/2 tsp of jam in the middle of your wrap. * Keep the wonton wrappers covered with a damp towel or paper towel so they don't dry out while you work.
  • With your finger, spread two adjacent edges of the wonton wrapper with egg yolk and fold into a triangle sealing the wrapper while pressing out any air pockets. If you want to you can fold into a traditional wonton shape by pinching two corners together, or leave it as a triangle.
  • heat your oil to 350 degrees.
  • Place a couple of wontons at a time in the oil and fry until golden brown
  • remove to paper towel to drain, then lightly dust with more powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

I used my homemade cherry jam for these, but any good quality jam of your choice (or pie filling) will work.  With pie filling be careful not to eat them when they are hot as it will be runnier than jam and could potentially burn your mouth.  Hard to resist but patience is required here!
