1 small saucepan
1 citrus juicer
1 Pitcher or jug
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 cups water, divided 1 cup for syrup, 5 cups for lemonade
- 6-8 fresh lemons, juiced to make 1 cup *save a few slices for garnish
In a small saucepan combine the 1 cup granulated sugar and 1 cup water, divided and bring to a simmer over low-medium heat (do not let it boil) and simmer stirring occasionally until all of the sugar has dissolved. Set aside to cool.
A little hint to extract more juice from your lemons is to roll them while applying slight pressure, before cutting and juicing them. Alternatively if they're cold you can microwave the whole lemons for about 30 seconds to release some of the juices, then cut and juice.
Juice the lemons until you have 1 cup of juice (remove seeds and pulp by straining if desired). This will take between 6 and 8 lemons depending on their size. Reserve half a lemon for slicing for garnish if desired.
In a large jug or pitcher, pour the 1 cup of the lemon juice and add the simple syrup (water/sugar mixture) and stir. Then add the remaining 5 cups of cold water and stir. Top with a few lemon slices if desired.
To serve, fill a tall glass with ice cubes and pour the fresh lemonade over top, garnish with a slice of lemon. Enjoy!
If you want to jazz up the lemonade, feel free to add fresh fruit or fruit puree. Strawberry Lemonade is a family favorite. If you want the recipe for that go to mumgrub.com/strawberry-lemonade
Also if you enjoy some fizz in your lemonade, substitute soda water for regular water and enjoy.
