Equipment

  • 1 6 Qt Instant pot (or larger)

Ingredients

  • 3 cups basmati rice *rinsed until the water is clear
  • 3 to 3¼ cups water or broth of choice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  • Put the 1 Tbsp vegetable oil in the instant pot and rub it on the bottom and sides. This step is optional but I find I have zero sticky bits with this little extra step.
  • Rinse the 3 cups basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This may take 5 or 6 washes, but don't skip this step or your rice WILL be sticky.
  • Once the rice is rinsed add it to the IP add 3 to 3¼ cups water (the extra 1/4 cup will yield a fluffier rice).
  • Add the 1 tsp salt
  • Place the lid on the Instant Pot and ensure the valve is set to SEAL then press the rice button to start the IP
  • Once the rice is done, let the Instant Pot natural release for 10 minutes, then turn the valve to release any remaining pressure.
  • Remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork.

Notes

Instant pot rice is so versatile.  You can use it for your dinner and have perfect rice on the table in no time at all.  Additionally, recipes that call for leftover or cold rice can be made the same day without all of the preplanning that having cold leftover rice needs.  Just chill the rice in the fridge for half and hour before using in your leftover rice recipe!
